CHESTER - The public is invited to give their ideas on revitalizing the downtown section at a meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25th, at Hoffman Hall, above the Fire House on Main Street. The Borough Council will host the meeting as a follow-up to a session held on May 9 when a representative from the state Department of Community Affairs presented an introduction to the "Main Street, New Jersey" program.

More than 100 people attended to discuss strategies to promote a better business climate in Chester, said a statement.
This next meeting will begin with Mayor Dennis Verbaro addressing issues that were raised at the first meeting. Verbaro also will introduce an individual who will help direct the steps towards the Main Street, New Jersey application process. This will be followed by a presentation of another approach to business district revitalization called Downtown New Jersey, Inc.
And finally a discussion and question and answer period will follow. Downtown New Jersey, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening commercial business districts, whether they are urban, suburban or rural; traditional downtowns; neighborhood shopping districts or commercial corridors. The organization is comprised of commercial district management professionals, business operators, public officials, community volunteers, and real estate, architectural and planning professionals, the statement said. Public input is vital to help steer and choose the best course for the future of the Chester business district, the statement said.
