CRANFORD -- Kathleen Prunty, head of the Downtown Management Corporation and a one-time member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, was the guest speaker for the club's April meeting."Before" and "after" photos and drawings helped club members to visualize the aggressive development underway in the township.
Prunty spoke about Cranford Crossing, the Riverfront redevelopment project and the proposed new Walgreens pharmacy.She stressed the need to expect the best and the finest from developers and builders, and that settling for less is not an option.The group members concluded that downtown Cranford will soon be enjoying a bright and successful future.
The club's business meeting included a discussion about the upcoming planting at Memorial Park and the Sept. 11 Memorial on May 10. Member Renee Ross will organize both efforts.
The club also discussed its October fundraising program starring Kathy Miller, the White House flower arranger. Miller is an entertaining storyteller as well as an accomplished dried flower arranger. She owns her own farm where she grows and harvests her flowers andher arranging talents found their way to the White House during the Clinton years.
Green Thumb has arranged for Miller to share her secrets and love of flower arranging in the program in October; more details will follow.
